  • the story behind a song - Ruth - Mr. Turner

if you want to know something about me it's that I like songs: lyrics, poetry and stories a whole lot... songs come from everywhere from stories of life: tragedy and joy, from devotionals spent in quietness or sometimes music and words that just seem to come naturally...

I suppose we'll start off with a story perhaps one of many to come... - Ps. 42:8

Kody and I mentioned how we liked a couple of the songs from the old album.  Kody mentioned the songs “You Are” and “Mr. Turner” as being two of his favorites.  Dustin mentioned that “You Are” came from John 6.  He then gave us some insight on Mr. Turner.  “That song totally came from a prayer.  That’s about a guy who didn’t really like me a whole lot or the idea of the band.  He had cancer and wasn’t a Christian and his family was getting scared because he was rapidly dying.  He actually accepted Christ two weeks before he died.  He was seventy-four years old.  That song, when I wrote it, I just remember playing the lick and then all those words just came out and I knew what it was about.  I knew it was for him and for his family.  I think that song is so powerful because God was giving the message like no matter how stubborn someone is, how old they are, how rich they are, how drugged up they are or whatever, if you pray that God will save them, He can work in their heart and let them know that they need Him.  That guy was an older guy who had done a lot of great things in his life and didn’t think he needed God (before he realized his need for Christ).  But he definitely accepted Christ.”

  • Christian Agencies Offer Aid to Taiwan Typhoon Victims

"While World Vision is working on distributing emergency supplies to victims, The Salvation Army in Taiwan is working with the country’s military in its rescue operation. It plans to help transport people and household goods back to villages once the crisis is over, provide medium-term shelter/housing and community buildings to victims, distribute disinfectant, water and other cleaning materials and equipment to affected villages in hard-hit Tainan County, and provide sleeping bags to the growing number of refugees in emergency shelters." link

    what a horrible president

"On Saturday, Taiwan’s president offered his first apology for the slow response after coming under heavy criticism from the public for his handling of the crisis."

"have chastised him for underestimating the devastation...On Thursday, the Taiwanese cabinet reversed an earlier decision and said that it would accept foreign aid, including the heavy-lift helicopters needed to carry excavation equipment deep into the mountains."

“The most pressing needs now are providing shelter, food, and clean water for those who have had to evacuate their homes. We also want to make sure the children are secure and have a safe place where they are cared for,” says Hank Du, Executive Director for World Vision Taiwan.
